type: black

origin: india

region: assam

variety: assam

ingredients: black tea

caffeine: strong

price level: $$$$

Bold black tea from the Assam region of India. Assam tea is known for a deep, burgundy-red cup and pungent flavor. Our Assam Melody is perfect for tea drinkers who may be new to the powerful character of Assam. Rich aroma, more sweet starchy than malty, like roasted plantains. Rounded mouthfeel, malty without being overpowering. Slight notes of raisin. Brisk astringency and not extremely pungent. A solid, 'friendly' Assam, from the well-regarded Meleng Estate. Steep at 212°F for 3-5 minutes

Strong tea that I brewed into concentrate and added milk. A starchy nuance broke through the milk which was a little odd. I think I t was that starchy plantain flavor. I don't like black tea on its own very often which is why I add milk.

I cold brewed the single serving packet all day for a half gallon pitcher of iced tea. Worked great for me to cut down on the caffeine level and it wasn't bitter or astringent.

This is a good black tea, it has a "dry" astringent finish which is a nice counterpart to it's juicy fruity notes while drinking.

Perfect black tea with a malty and starchy reddish morning black tea. I love this tea with some adagio's BEES honey or some other sweetener to bring out and lightly sweeten the special black tea.

I really enjoyed this wonderful assam black tea, with its dry, malty deep red- blackish tea. I serve this tea with sweetener and a bit of honey to give a nice sweetness to this enjoyable tasting tea.

This is a good, simple black tea. It's bold and caffeinated. I get a little bit of a mineral taste but I'm not sure if that's the tea itself or if it's my filter. Nothing super special, but a good solid base tea.

This is a staple tea in my tea stash. Bold yet sweet...pretty red color....malty, raisin-y taste. Love it! So good! wonderful hot or cold brewed.

Robust, full bodied tea that's a touch earthy with a hint of cocoa and malt to it. Goes well in the morning with a bit of soy milk.

A smooth, full-bodied, basic black tea. I like to use this for the base of a milk tea and add tapioca balls for boba tea.

Good when I'm in the mood for a basic black tea. It can get a bit bitter if oversteeped, but if brewed at a lower temperature for 3 minutes it's really nice, sweet and malty.

This was very good. It was slightly sweet and malty, not at all bitter (I liked it much better than the green assam). Tasty!

Assam melody is my favorite everyday tea. Lately I've been combining it with lemongrass tea, which is a fantastic healing combination.

Assam medley is a wonderful, slightly malty and hearty black tea with minimal astringency. Steeped at 180 degrees for 3 minutes brings out the best of the flavor without much tannin tang.

My favorite go-to, basic black morning tea. Nice and strong, a bit malty, without being bitter. I drink this sugar, no milk.

Great tea for making kombucha. I steep for 40min starting from boiling water that has been removed from heat. Tea doesn't turn bitter - great flavor.

    • 

This tea is smooth and malty with a hint of sweetness that lingers after each sip. It does not have a harsh bitterness, but does have a pleasant astringency. I like steeping this one for 4 min @ 200F.

I quite enjoyed this tea with its sweet malt and plantain flavors, even though I’m typically not a fan of either. It reminds me of a fancier and more mature unsweetened iced tea.

This is a lovely, smooth "tea flavored tea." I enjoyed it as an accompaniment to a noodle dish and it was lovely.

Sweet molasses with a touch of maple syrup, followed by an aftertaste of acidic astringency. Not my thing, but an interesting foray into Assams.

    • 

Bold, smooth, and powerful flavor. It has what I can only describe as a pumpkiny taste to it, but was the perfect kick to wake up with.

    • 

This is a pretty good black tea. It's bold and mildly astringent. If I had to choose between this one and the assam harmony, I would pick the latter, but not by much.

    • 

Once steeped I only noticed a little astringency. I added a bit of sugar out of habit. The flavor was rich and smooth. As it warmed a natural sweetness blossomed, even a little maltiness, which I was happily surprised by (having not read the description thouroughly beforehand).

      Steeped (1) 195F 4min, (2) 212F 5min

I liked this more than I expected to as a person who gravitates toward fruity or dessert-flavored teas. I thought it would be kind of a boring unflavored black tea, but the molasses flavor came through, and it tastes pleasantly malty. It's really not bad! I wouldn't choose it every single day, but it's a good tea.

    • 

Really like this one! It makes a nice strong, malty cup but is not bitter at all. Just a little astringency at the finish.

Brewed at 212F for 3 mins with rock sugar added

For me personally, there isn't much to say about the scent. I was simply greeted with the familiarity of black tea.

I opted to brew this for a shorter period of time to help combat potential bitterness. There was still some bitterness present, but it wasn't really anything that a small amount of sweetener couldn't handle. The flavor is quite nice; like a light breakfast blend. You don't really need to add milk or a lot of sweetener. Unless that's just your preference of course.

I'm finding that this tea holds a lot of nostalgia for me. Its simple flavor brings to mind calm Scottish mornings, bare feet on cool stone floors, and the sound of a kettle. Oh, pre-quarantine world, how I miss thee.

    • 

Not my favorite black tea, most of the times I’ve made it it’s ended up weak unless I add a ton more leaves than I feel should be needed. When I can get some flavor it’s decent but not the best out there.

    • 

This is a solid black tea. I found, however, that I like it even better mixed with Keemun Concerto, which was inspired by Brigadoon Breakfast, which I can't get right now!

This is a very thick full-body tea. I usually like my black tea to be super dark but not so much with this one. It would be a great afternoon 'pick me up' tea or to go with a late-night study session. When I make it again I am adding vanilla to go with the smokey professor's study smell/flavor that it has.
