For our Organic Pinhead Gunpowder, some of the finest Chinese green tea is painstakingly hand-rolled leaf by leaf into very tiny spheres. Known as zhucha or "pearl tea" to the Chinese, it takes special skill to roll tea leaves into this unusual shape. Because they are so tightly rolled, these little pearls keep exceptionally well, which is rare for high quality green tea. When infused, the little pearls gracefully unfold producing a flavorful dark green liquor with unique fragrance and a delightful, lingering aftertaste. This wonderful tea may be enjoyed any time of the day but is especially pleasant with meals. Our Organic Pinhead Gunpowder is produced on Da Zhang Shan (Big Barrier Mountains) in the province of Jiangxi in central China, near the city of Wuyuan. Nearly 400 feet above sea level, this area has grown specialty teas for hundreds of years. It is a protected region without any industry and free from pollution. This tea is certified organic by the prestigious BCS OKO-Garantie GMBH, in Nurnberg Germany. Stash Tea is a certified organic food processor through Quality Assurance International. QAI is a professional organic certification service that is internationally recognized. QAI's program is to certify every step of the organic chain--from the land on which the product is grown, to the growers, to the post harvest facilities, and the final processing and handling facilities. This tea is also Fair Trade Certified. Fair Trade certified tea meets the highest standards of both quality and social responsibility. Fair Trade certified teas come from tea gardens and cooperatives which provide opportunities for better housing, healthcare and education for their workers through a premium that is managed by the workers for the benefit of their community. Fair Trade also promotes the use of sustainable farming methods.
