Spanning 460 hectares, Somerset is in the famous Dimbula Valley known for its iconic teas. Reflecting the cool and moist climate of the Talawakelle District, this Somerset Estate Uda Watte is bright, with medium body and a presence that makes it the ideal introduction to the collection of Watte Single Estate Teas.

A well-rounded, well-balanced Ceylon. It's brick-red in colour and moderately heavy in taste. I personally prefer very high grown or lowland teas, but I have enjoyed this one nevertheless. It also claims to be a single-estate tea, which is uncommon for supermarket options.

It's got a peculiar aroma of plums and chocolate, but becomes bitter relatively easily. However, this tea isn't too astringent unless overbrewed.

      My brew: @ 210°F for approx. 7 m; 0·17 ozs (5 g) of leaves per 16 ozs (45 cls) of water.
