Ruhuna Relish is quite an interesting tea. It's robust but not very bitter. Its taste is full, prominent and a tad bitter and it's got a dark amber colour with a hint of red. A cup brewed the standard way in a teapot has notes of cocoa and chocolate. With an improvised gongfu setup, I managed to get an aroma of cocoa with hints of coffee in the second and third brew; the fourth brew shifted towards a slightly burnt aroma with a touch of caramel.

There's not much to dislike about this unique Ceylon. I don't hesitate to call it unique, because having notes of coffee and caramel in tea is rather uncommon, to put it lightly. The packaging claims the tea has "noticeable aroma of figs". Well... I dare to disagree.

Ruhuna Relish is likely mid-high in caffeine, given its dark shade and intense taste.

      Brew characteristics:

      Standard: 3 tsp / 0·17 oz / 5 g of tea leaves per 16 oz / 45 cl of water; 8 m @ 210°F

      Pseudo-gongfu: 6 tsp / 0·34 oz / 1 dkg of tea leaves per 7 oz / 20 cl of water; 10~30 s @ 210°F , 5 brews
