A hint of smokiness distinguishes this tea which has been basket-fired over charcoal. It is a robust tea with plentiful gold tips and produces a golden-hued cup. This tea is grown in the southwest mountainous area of Yunnan province in China, where wild tea trees hundreds and perhaps a thousand years old are still vigorous. This area is sometimes referred to as the "birthplace of tea." This is a very high quality tea, with some scientific research showing the highest levels of polyphenols occurring in Yunnan Black teas. This tea was not produced commercially until 1939 due to its remote and difficult to reach location. It has grown steadily in popularity since that time. Stash organic teas are certified through Quality Assurance International. QAI is a professional organic certification service that is internationally recognized. QAI's program is to certify every step of the organic chain--from the land on which the product is grown, to the growers, to the post-harvest facilities, and the final processing and handling facilities. Such diligence provides assurance that the end product is indeed organic, and that it complies with state, provincial, nation, and international organic standards. Products which carry the QAI certification seal convey the confidence that all materials and processes have been individually certified as organic.
