type: green

origin: japan

variety: genmai matcha

ingredients: genmaicha matcha

caffeine: medium

price level: $$$$

This Japanese classic blend of Genmaicha and Matcha is a comfort food all its own. The toastiness of our sencha and roasted rice genmaicha with our gently grassy, Uji-grown matcha make for a rich and complex vibrant green cup. Warming, relaxing yet energizing, it is the perfect meld of umami and vegetal notes. A gentle introduction to matcha for those who are hesitant, and a welcome addition to our Japanese tea collection.

This is delicious, like the regular genmaicha, but amped up from the added matcha. It has the best umami mouthfeel and is perfect for a freezing winter day. Toasty, roasty, popped goodness! I don't know if I like this or the regular one better; I'll drink this if I feel I want some extra caffeine. :)

I've had better genmaicha, but this is really good, too. Has the really nice roasted rice flavor you expect from a genmaicha but it's not as brothy, and slightly more grassy.

Bright green matcha dust coated the inside of the packet and all the ingredients. I have toasted rice and a few popped grains. I find it to be a pretty contrast to the bright green tea leaves. The smell is very green tea with toasted grain. 2 min @ 160 produced a clear, pale green brew. I could see how it smells like popcorn to some, but I didn't get any burnt aroma. Very smooth and clean green tea flavor. Second steep 3 min @ 160 was similar shade and less of the toasted grain aroma. I enjoy green tea so this is good to me. I'd definitely drink it again.

I like the toasty aroma and flavor but matcha is just a bit too grassy tasting for me. I imagine that green tea lovers will absolutely adore this tea....but it's just not a good match for me.

Tried this iced first. It did fairly well for having matcha in it. Sometimes matcha can clump in an ungainly way in cold water but the nature of matcha is electrostatic thus it makes it stick nicely to the rice and tea leaves. Speaking of which I feel like a cheaper sencha was used for this. It is decent, maybe a summer picking, but not something I'd want to drink on it's own. It has some underlying grassy qualities that are also a bit metalic. Other then that it is quite nice.

A very nice way to get into green and matcha tea in a gentle way. I enjoyed this tea very much, and I like the smooth mild grassy, and popcorn-toasted rice taste. I added some sweetener-adagio match honey to mildly sweeten up the tea to bring out the popcorn-toast rice flavor.

I tried this tea, but I don't feel like the matcha powder really added anything to the regular genmaicha. Genmaicha has a strong, toasted flavor and the amount of matcha in the tea really isn't enough to overcome that flavor. I guess it adds additional caffeine?
